Salty, rusty, broken and battered
With varnish, lacquer and paint is splattered
A shipwrecked melee of wooden treats
Lie brutally stranded, now at my feet.
Smashed, trashed, cracked like a whip
As the wood hits the rocks like a ruined ship
Tossed like a ball, thrust deep in the rocks
These relics of boats once lining the docks.
Wrought and heaved and scoured by the sea
A banquet of treasures left waiting for me
A deluge of waves sends more to the shore
A shoe, a boot, a shattered old door.
Stocked and stacked and heaving my stash,
It’s back to the workshop to make me some cash
As sanding and sawing and nailing begin
the feeling of happiness starts to seep in.
Revived, renewed I’ve nailed down the lid
The day’s work complete, it’s now off to bed.
Rest easy dear drifters, your journey is ended
To be adored once again as this artist intended.
Allie is a newly inspired South Devon based photographer and driftwood artist, specializing in the ever-changing landscapes that Devon is so famous for. Her passion lies in capturing powerful scenery along the coastline, a favourite being Burgh Island. Her carefree approach to roaming the cliffs and beaches allows her to dabble in her other favourite pastime – collecting and transforming driftwood into bespoke mirrors and other interesting pieces. Now an artist in residence at the renowned ‘Hope Cove Gallery’, much of Allies work can be purchased there as well as online or at The Sloop in Bantham.
To discuss purchasing photographs or canvases please use the contact page. Likewise if you have seen a mirror that you would like me to recreate, get in touch.
